Jim Aronitz, MBA, CFA, P.Eng.
Jim founded Hemisphere Capital Management in 1993 and has served as its President ever since. He is a registered Portfolio Manager with over thirty years of wealth management experience. Prior to Hemisphere, Jim worked as an equity portfolio manager with the Investment Corporation of Saskatchewan and as a mutual fund manager with Metropolitan Trust. He is also a former director of a large venture capital fund and several publicly listed companies.
Jim earned a BSc in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Alberta. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Jim is a current member of the CFA Institute, a former director of the Canadian Council of Financial Analysts, and a past President of CFA Society Saskatchewan. He is also a past President of the Rotary Club of Calgary North.
Jim has a passion for fly fishing and travelling. He has visited over 100 countries, many with 4 children in tow, exploring diverse cultures and landscapes. Jim’s love for fishing allows him to relax and unwind amidst nature, enjoying the thrill of the catch. Some of his recent travels have been fishing-related, with trips to Bolivia for Dorado and to Colombia for Peacock Bass.
Skyelar Kachur, CIM
Skyelar is a Partner and Portfolio Manager with Hemisphere, bringing over ten years of experience in the financial industry. She goes above and beyond to ensure her clients receive personalized financial guidance. Skyelar acts as Hemisphere’s Chief Compliance Officer, drawing on her experience to ensure regulatory requirements are met. In 2021, Wealth Professional recognized her as one of the Rising Stars in Canada’s wealth management industry.
She earned a BA in Commerce, Organizations and Entrepreneurship from Brown University where she played on the NCAA Division I women’s ice hockey team. She also holds the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation. Skyelar is a member of the Steering Committee for the Alberta Chapter of Women in Capital Markets where she empowers women in finance through networking, mentoring, and education. She is also a Board Member for the Unlocking Potential (UP) Foundation in support of Calgary families.
Skyelar finds joy in exploring the mountains near Calgary alongside her husband, Logan, and their loyal canine companion, Chip. In addition to their love for outdoor pursuits, Skyelar and Logan share a passion for food. They enjoy discovering new restaurants and experimenting with exciting recipes. As big sports fan, many of these culinary experiences are enjoyed in front of a big game with hockey, football and baseball being their favourites.
Dylan Assen, CFA
Dylan is a Partner and Portfolio Manager at Hemisphere. He brings over five years of financial analysis experience and an unparalleled passion for investing. Dylan undertakes performance reporting, trading, and investment research. He is a member of the investment committee, providing valuable insights and contributing to investment decisions. Prior to joining Hemisphere, Dylan worked in wealth management as an Investment Representative for a large Canadian financial services firm.
Dylan earned a BBA in Financial Analysis & Economics from Mount Royal University. He further solidified his financial expertise by obtaining the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He is a current member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society Calgary. Dylan has very strong ethical principles. He previously advanced to the Canadian CFA Ethics Challenge Finals with his team after securing first prize at the Prairie Regional portion of the competition.
Dylan’s passion for the financial industry goes beyond his professional pursuits, as he remains a dedicated student of the field. He immerses himself in reading, particularly on subjects like value investing and economic history. Outside of the financial realm, Dylan shows his unwavering support for the Calgary Flames. He also enjoys watching professional sports leagues, notably the NFL and Formula 1.
Stephan Aronitz, CFA, P.Eng.
Stephan is a Partner and Portfolio Manager at Hemisphere. Stephan is focused on investment research and delivering highly personalized service to Hemisphere’s clients. He is a member of the investment committee and manages Hemisphere’s performance reporting in accordance with the Global Investment Performance Standards. Prior to joining Hemisphere, he spent several years working with an international engineering firm en route to becoming a Professional Engineer (P. Eng).
Stephan graduated with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University. Stephan’s educational background has equipped him with a unique skill set that combines analytical thinking with financial expertise. He transitioned into the financial industry by obtaining the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He is a current member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society Calgary.
Beyond his professional endeavours, Stephan has a variety of interests. He continues to play hockey and has been slowly trying to improve at golf. He is an avid cyclist, starting with mountain biking before transitioning to road biking. Much the result of his upbringing, Stephan has a passion for travelling, appreciating the captivating experiences that each destination offers. Though he continues to pursue his interests, alongside his wife, Stephan is embracing the newfound joys and responsibilities of parenthood.
Joanne Kotulski
Joanne brings a wealth of administrative expertise to her role at Hemisphere Capital Management. With a career spanning over 20 years, Joanne plays a pivotal role as the main point of contact for addressing client requests. Her exceptional skills and dedication ensure smooth and efficient client service. Prior to joining Hemisphere, Joanne spent several years working with one of Canada’s big banks as a Senior Administrative Assistant in the areas of trust and audit services.
Joanne graduated from SAIT with a diploma in Marketing. She has sought further education in the financial industry through the Investment Funds In Canada (IFC) certificate, along with completing a certificate in Project Management.
Outside of the office, Joanne finds enjoyment in cultivating her passions and interests. With a green thumb and a deep love for nature, she spends her time tending to her vibrant garden. Joanne’s nurturing nature extends to her affection for animals, particularly her special fondness for dogs. You can frequently find her at the dog parks around Calgary spending time with her two dogs.
